There’s been a shooting on Clearwater Beach. Apparently someone in the garage of the Hyatt, not clear if it was contained to the garage of if shots fired down on people below. Nothing solid yet, but there are reports police are looking for the suspect in a green ford Taurus. Some have said the car is still on south beach, some near myrtle and chestnut in downtown Clearwater. Again, nothing confirmed, but please be safe and keep and eye out. I’ve only seen one mention of injuries on the beach, and it was not specific.
A shaky truce crumbled Thursday as gunfire erupted at Independence Square, the center of anti-government protests and an increasingly violent crisis that protest leaders say left as many as 128 dead in recent days. At least 100 people have died and 500 have been injured since Thursday morning, the head of the protesters’ medical service told CNN.

Students remain stranded at schools, as commuters lucky enough to make their way to makeshift shelters begin waking up in churches, fire houses and stores that remained open all night to provide a warm place to stay as temperatures plummeted into the teens.
As Atlanta’s traffic nightmare stretched into Day 2, state transportation officials advised drivers who made it home to stay there, and others who were at makeshift shelters to remain in place indefinitely as they continue to treat ice-coated roads.
Be glad you don’t live in Atlanta right now. They’re sending out rescue teams with food and water for people stuck in traffic, and people are sleeping in pharmacies.

NEW YORK—Cheers filled the streets and American flags waved triumphantly through the air today as the nation turned out in full force to celebrate an entire week having passed since the last time a madman opened fire on innocent civilians in some kind of fatal mass shooting. “We did it, folks! We banded together and managed to go seven whole days without killing our fellow Americans in a senseless murdering spree!” Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano said in a speech to jubilant throngs gathered in Times Square. “Yes, some people were shot this week, but not in a random, highly public, viscerally disturbing way and—most importantly—not all in one place, by one psychopath. Maybe one day we can live in a society where abominable large-scale gun violence stays out of the national headlines for a whole month even!” At press time, federal authorities had issued a reminder to all Americans that a lot can happen in 24 hours, “so let’s not get too excited yet.

I’m fascinated by the Hourly News app. It’s like comparing front pages of all the different news radio stations.
Also it starts with NPR and BBC, so if I’m short on time it’s a great way to get up to date on what happened overnight with the quickness.
